If you are developing any kind of modern servers, or modern frontend your only choice is to go with unix-like operating systems. So realistically, since you can’t go with windows, the choice you have is either macOS or Linux. Both are valuable choices, widely supported in development world.
We must say, linux offers an attractive view of the world. His open source and free values are most certainly alluring. It feels like it’s uniting humanity to be a better place. It just brings a sense of pride and fulfillment to work for the greater good. If you are like us, a strong believer in zero-marginal-cost software, a believer that there is some cost to develop software, but once it’s developed costs of maintaining it are next to zero. If you believer in fair pricing, If you love to help others, if you are master of the cloud, if you have unleashed your potential, you are probably also a linux fan.
On the other hand, some of as are macOS fans. We put a high value of our time. We don’t want to spend countless hours learning linux way to do simple tasks. We are prepared to pay other developers for apps that look and feel good. We want to be productive in order to create additional value. We love our fancy hardware and we cherish a good performance. We believe hardware should be tightly integrated with software, because that is how you get the best product. We are product oriented people and we create exquisite, almost magical software effortlessly.
There are plenty of stuff that makes software engineer look awesome. We are paid well, we tend to work on interesting problems. We tend to use logic a lot. However due to loneliness of our job we want to be cooler. The most important thing to know is, that we should try to feel good about ourselves. We should try to stay humble. We shouldn’t be envious of other people and we should try to iteratively improve our lives.
